    SUSTAINABLE CITY (The Solution)

When it comes to designing the first question that should be asked is:- what solution is one making effort to provide to cater for the intending design?, for great architecture is beyond just buildings; it is more about creating a sustainable destinations that make people feel healthy to live in, motivated to work in and always wanting to come.

A sustainable city should provide the highest quality of life and also ensuring that the needs of future generations are not compromised. Although several conditions influences the quality of life, such as high crime rates, general health, unemployment, income growth, and most of all, cost of living.

The built environment, and the designed pattern of the city has a great influence on the general quality of life of the city as well as helping to minimise people’s impact on the environment.

It is very important to note that for a sustainable city to be achieved there must be a collaborative process between municipal authorities, urban planners, developers, architects, landscape architects, engineers, and energy, water companies and all other Environmental and Developmental bodies. All this holistically create a master plan approach that will result into a vibrant, healthy and Sustainable balanced environment.

Everyone should also be made to effectively participate in the process, if possible education model should also be created for the city residents to follow and by so doing the future needs and possible solution is met in the now. It is very obvious that there will be a significant increase in population and urbanisation, which will in turn have a tremendous impact on the city structure, infrastructures and resources, as well as the health and wellbeing of its inhabitants. Necessary solution must be provide to cater for the high standard of quality living. In achieving this the people should be carry along and made to understand properly the essence of sustainability, this sense of belonging will make them passionate about improving their own city and in the long run result into a positive way of thinking about sustainable cities.

For a perfect sustainable city to be achieved the urban transportation must be put into consideration. There are many challenges in the way we move about inside our cities. Congestion, safety, air pollution, noise emissions and high levels of CO2 are some of the key challenges we face today in growing cities. That is why in most big cities in the world right now encourage the use of bicycles for mobility to tackle congestion and CO2 challenges. Walking and cycling are otherwise called “Active transport”, are more than just a healthy mode of transport. From Research it has be established that active transport brings many positive social, environmental and economic benefits to the cities involved.

All these gives us a positive perception about the Solutions involved in Sustainability.

Yes, it is very necessary for research and development that support sustainability of our spaces, we have solutions but difficult to implement them such as carpool, bicycle, solar power to reduce GHG emissions. But due to our lifestyle we are unable to bring them in practice,

What we need is collective efforts to develop "Sustainable Consciousness"
